78 degrees west

Welcome! A little about us...

78 degrees west is the longitude of the Triangle area of North Carolina where we are all from. Formed in 2021, we are an award-winning band that enjoys playing jazz. We hope you will consider inviting us to play for your next event! Here's a bit about each of us (pictured from left to right):

Luke (trombone) is in 10th grade at Cary Academy. His love of jazz started when he first learned Miles Davis's tune Freddie Freeloader at age 9 and he has been hooked ever since.

Zeb (saxes and trumpet) is a junior at Durham Academy. He's played in the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and won national and international awards on both instruments. In his spare time, he enjoys competitive running and supporting Chelsea FC!

Ori (piano) is a 9th grader from Chapel Hill. He likes composing music, eating Krispy Kreme donuts, kayaking and cheering for the Tar Heels. He dislikes blisters, paper cuts, poison ivy and dook.

Alex (bass) has been playing music for more than ten years, and has been playing jazz for four of those. He has led the recording of two albums of jazz originals in 2020 and 2021, and is excited to compose and record more!

Ethan (drums) Is In 9th grade and received his first drum kit at the age of 3. The rest is history! Ethan is a lover of multiple music genres and Jazz Is at the top of the list. He also enjoys riding atvs, basketball, and of course video games!

Dylan (piano) has been playing for over ten years, also playing trombone for over seven years. He loves jazz, classical, physics, and reading the Bible, and is overjoyed to be playing in 78 degrees west.
